Under the high afternoon sun in the Breeding forest wanders a lonely gryphoness. Mate-less and lonely. She weaves between the trees keeping in the protective shade of their high thick branches. She wanders for no reason, only hoping chance will work in her favor. She wishes for a lifelong mate who will care for her and always see her as special. She has watched several couples mate then the male parts, on seeking pleasure, not love. She does not want that. She wants a mate that she can settle down with and raise young together with.
Chance never seemed to be with her though. Irene has visited this forest many times usually hiding in the bushes. The last few times though she has openly displayed herself and lie in clearing for hours yet no one came. No one even flew over head. As she thought more and more about how she seemed invisible the more saddened she became. Was she in fact invisible and did not know it. Then how had her parents raised her. She could only thick that since she was born to them they could always see her.
The thought of being invisible to others eyes made her feel like she was leading an empty life. If she ever did anything good would gryphons notice. She thought not. No they can't see you they will never see you. Suicide began to creep into her mind as the only way out. I have no purpose and luck will never blow my way. I'm so fed up with life. Yes, she was young and had not seen the true meaning of life. She need to be whole for find it, but in order to be whole she would need a mate. She could no get one.
Irene found a small hole in the lush forest canopy and alighted to the sky. she gained only enough altitude to avoid the tops of trees and made large lazy circles. She scanned the horizon and in moments found what she was looking for. The high cliff that was also the source of water for the stream the ran through the forest. A narrow waterfall cascaded from its edge to a deep pool below. She landed on its large clear top and looked down on the forest below. It was beautiful and probably the last beautiful thing she would ever see.
Irene walked to the cliffs edge, knocking some pebbles loose. They tumbled over the edge and feel the long distance down. Irene looked down the sheer wall. Was this it was everything about to end for her or would a kind soul come before her jump and save her life. Looks like she was about to find out. She bunched her wings up tight against her body and began to lean over the edge. she was loosing her balance and she was going to fall. No one was going to save her, for no one could see her.
